Porn & Paranoia
FIn today’s culture, having more is an ideal we all strive towards. More likes on Instagram, more pairs of shoes, more products on our shelves. And with this culture of wanting more comes with the desire to have all these things for less.

This work will focus on the impact that this rampant consumerism has had upon art and design, and what makes up the “ideal” life.

Hito Steyerl’s text “In Defense of the Poor Image” references how the world of art has become highly digital, where speed and quantity has overtaken quality. This sort of image is easy to create with today’s technology, and from Insta- gram to Youtube, and even a drawing feature on SnapChat, the world of photography, film, and fine art is more accessible to the public than
ever before. Art has become for the people, no longer an exclusive and secretive worl limited only for the select few, but with that comes art twisted amongst the porn and paranoia of the online world, making it hard to tell what is real and what is simply a poor image.

Products such as meat and technology have lowered in aspects such as quality and longevity, but the people of America don’t care. They only want more and more, making one question at the end of the day, is not everything a poor image?
